Insightful Documentary on Gang Violence in the US

Pastedgraphic

Yesterday while doing some administrative work I streamed the documentary Crips and Bloods: Made in America on Netflix. I was expecting to be educated on the history of gangs in America. Instead, I was taken on a sociology 101 tour de force through black history in America, particularly as it relates to the post-WWII experience in southern California. This is a gritty, dark film, and not intended for children. However, the social dynamics involved in creating a gang culture in the inner city are fascinating, if not altogether heartbreaking. The documentary ends with hope, and the work that many former gang members are doing amidst the rising generation of city dwellers. However, and ultimately, it is the message of the gospel (reconciliation with God through a substitute) that is the answer for both inner city hate, suburban greed, and all other effects of the fall. If you have Netflix stream, check it out.
