The Promise

Here are some pics and the audio from today's community advent service at Dahlonega Baptist. The message, "The Promise," is on Genesis 3:15. More audio teaching can be found here on the Creekstone website (the quality is not great-- to be improved soon with more adequate recording equipment).  The top photo is members of Creekstone's worship team (Elijah Merrett, Chris Gamble, Jesse Turk and Lauren Stephenson) leading music. Wow... they did a GREAT job!

Grace for Tower-Builders Like Me

Tonight, while reading my 5-year-old the story about the Tower of Babel, we learned about people who were trying to create a magnificent stairway to heaven—a monument that would be a testimony to their greatness. However, the Lord intervened and stoped the project. As we talked about that story, it dawned on me that whenever God allows a monument that I am building for my own greatness to be torn down (regardless of how large or small), that it is for my good. It is an act of love on God's part to tear my heart from any monument that would cause me to boast in myself (as if there were reason). For the honor of Jesus and the good and greater joy of his people, the Father will remove lesser monuments so that the greater can be seen and appreciated— the greatness of the cross... the ultimate monument that reveals the unrivaled greatness of God's unspeakable grace, mercy and love.  The cross reminds me that as much as my flesh wants to rise up with pride to heaven, that my sin and self-righteousness required the Son to come down... in love, to rescue tower-builders like me.
