The Book That Rescued Me As A Pastor

I am thankful for Eugene Peterson and his book, The Contemplative Pastor, which God used to rescue me from quitting the pastorate back in 2004. It is the simplest, and in my opinion, most helpful explanation of pastoral ministry that I ever have read- period. And I go back to it often.

Here are a few snippets from the "Forward":

"My job is simply to be there, teaching, preaching Scripture as well as I can, and being honest with them."

"Christian spirituality means living in the mature wholeness of the gospel."

"My job is not to solve people's problems or make them happy, but to help them see [God's] grace operating in their lives."
