Keller’s Three Perspectives of the Gospel

I recently heard Dr. Tim Keller speaking about the three perspectives of the gospel as a lens for doing gospel-centered applications in sermons. I found them helpful.

  • The Theological Perspective. The gospel contains certain historical and theological facts that are to shape my thinking about God and mankind.
  • The Devotional Perspective. The gospel facts make a difference in my personal life, particularly in my identity.
  • The Cultural Perspective. The gospel flows out into my extended relationships and impacts the social structures in which I live.

Of course, considering these perspectives reveals how significant the message of grace is for the here and now, not just the past and future, and that it encompasses and impacts not merely part, but all of life.
