Happily Ever After (Ruth 4)

Listen Here:

We all know the final words to practically every Fairy Tale: “And they lived happily ever after.”

This is everyone’s dream. To live “happily ever after.” To marry the dream girl. To have the dream job. To live in our dream house. To enjoy dream vacations. To raise dream children. To experience a dream retirement.

Yet for most of us, at some point along the journey, it begins to rain on the dream. Sometimes, the dream becomes a nightmare. We experience this in our own lives and lament it in the world around us.

Relational conflict. Death and disease. Natural disasters. Senseless terrorist attacks.

There is so much sadness all around us.

“And they lived happily ever after?”

It would seem as if Fairy Tales just mock us. Or maybe they are they are written to strike at a nerve. To unearth a longing, taking us back to what Eden could have been. Should have been. An eternal paradise.

This is what Ruth 4 opens up for us.

While lesser dreams may die through unexpected journeys, God redeems shattered dreams with an even greater dream that is available to all of us.

We really can live happily ever after.
