“If I had more money I’d finally be happy.” Even if you have not said this, you probably have thought it. I have. But I hope you know that is a deceptive lie, which to believe and embrace could ruin your life. After all, how much is enough to be happy? Maybe mega-millions would do the trick? Listen to what the uber-wealthy have to say about riches:
“Okay, maybe money didn’t make them happy. But I’d like to give it a try!” Be careful, the lure of materialism’s promises of contentment has sharp barbs. And yet most all of us have taken the bait. It is woven into the very fabric our culture—the pursuit of the American Dream. However, the pursuit of that dream often turns into a nightmare of stress, anxiety and relational chaos… not contentment.
So, what is the antidote to the modern day plague of materialism? What would it take for me to be set free from the slavery of money and possessions and to live a life of generosity, joy and peace? What will break the chains? That is what we’ll talk about on Sunday in message #2 in our six-week series, The Generosity Factor. I guarantee that you will be glad that you were there.
If you missed last week’s message #1 and want to catch up, you may listen here.
Hope to see you Sunday.
