Fighting the Good Fight (VIDEO)

Below is an example of how to use the PPGR Preaching System to save time crafting focused, clear messages that are rooted in a specific text, address a problem with the human condition, tether the text and theme to the cross, and provide redemptive application that is grace-driven and Spirit-empowered.

Text: 1 Timothy 1:18-20

Keyword: fight

P) To fight the good fight of faith is to tenaciously hold on to the promise of the gospel (1 Tim. 1:18-20).

P2) Of course, my flesh fights back, holding more firmly to its desire for rightness than its willingness to confess fault.

The challenge is often seen when I'm tempted to consider someone else a bigger sinner than I am (see v. 15).

G) Even though tempted to come down from the cross, Jesus refused, showing me what it looks like to fight.

He held tenaciously onto the cross, bearing the consequences of my unrighteousness, so I can hold tenaciously onto him, receiving the consequences of his perfect righteousness.

R) Now, in view of the cross, I am motivated and empowered to sit in the sinner's place, willing to be the bigger sinner, regardless of who sits across the table.

Interestingly, the more I fight to believe the gospel, the less I fight with others.

And in time, the good fight of faith (as I consciously abide in Jesus) will produce the good fruit of the Spirit.
